Podcasts and Audiobooks

I went to PodcastAlley to see what kind of podcasts were available. Using the keyword "library" I found 163 different results. There are some useful podcasts for librarians that are worth your time.

Then I went to work on audiobooks. Although there are a lot of titles available, I will be the first to say that I will not use audiobooks personally. I NEED to hold a book when I READ it!!! :) But I know that there are many people who enjoy listening to a good book in a car or for any number of reasons prefer audiobooks. As a media specialist, this is a good resource to know about.

  1. I'm with you on needing to hold a book when you read. I have used audiobooks in my classroom as a reading station when I am working with guided reading groups. I have listened to audiobooks in my truck as I drive to work, but I am not able to comprehend what I hear as well as what I read. There is no replacement for a good (physical) book.

  2. I am not good at listening to audio books either. I get too distracted!!! I have listened to a few on CD, but for the majority of the time I was not paying attention! It makes the book very confusing. :-) It's like listening to football on the radio... it's just not the same as seeing it!

  3. You know I never thought I would enjoy and audiobook either, but my commute has me hooked on them! So far I've read all the Peter and the Starcatcher series, The Hunger Games, Around the World in 80 Days, The Chronicles of Narnia and Peter Pan in audio form. I will agree that physically reading a book is my favorite, but when you have a TERRIFIC narrator it's like being a kid again and having the book read to you. :-)
